My daughter rocks (on her knees head down) her self to sooth during bed or naps (ironically, both my husband and I had did the same thing).  I noticed a few weeks ago, she was so engrossed in doing the rocking she didn't notice she was banging her head against the crib.  She did it for a few minutes and then stopped.  I have only heard her bang a few times, usually she does this "rocking" anywhere in the crib even on the floor if she is tired and grabs a blanket.  I think it's normal...but I would conitue to monitor it.  Let us know what the Dr says.

No advice.  Could be night terrors??  I've seen different documentaries on TV about it.  Pretty scary stuff.

I will say, my DH had a childhood friend who suffered from an extreme case of night terrors.  When my DH and him were about 10 yr. old Rob tried to choke my DH while in his sleep due to a "night terror"  Rob's family had to make their house like a fortress after Rob tried to throw his little sister out the 2nd story window!

Good luck.....

I hope you get some answers as to what Jack is going through!

Ethan has night terrors now (8 yrs old), but they didn't start until he was about 4 yrs old and don't involve head banging.  My nephew was a head banger and outgrew it.  He slept with a winter tuke on to protect his head during the night.  The crib bumper was also put back on but at mid-level where his head would hit.  He's 5 yrs old now and PERFECTLY fine with NO brain damage, FYI.

Like Erin said, the Ferber book has a very helpful section on night terrors and sleep disturbances.

I'd get a 2nd opinion too.  Your ped's response sounds a bit too laid back for my liking.

Good luck!
